What’s in the Training
History & Philosophy
Learn how, traditionally, pranayama is thought to be the most effective method to stretch and direct prana (life force). Descriptions of pranayama practice date back to the origins of yoga. This training will examine the progressive path of the eight limbs of yoga from the fourth limb (breathing / pranayama) leading to the seventh limb (meditation / dhyana).
Subtle Energies / Bodies
Learn about how pranayama techniques help regulate the subtle energy of one’s being. Learn how the channelling of subtle energies are a preparation for meditation. Learn about the energetic flow and subtle pathways of the nadis, the five types of prana (five movements), and the interconnected energy bodies of koshas (sheaths or layers).
Breathing and Anatomy
Learn how the respiratory system and diaphragm function and how pranayama techniques affect the body. Understand the difference between unconscious, everyday breathing and the patterns of pranayama techniques where the breath is deliberately inhaled, exhaled, and held. Learn about the science behind yogic meditation and the effect on the body and mind.

Learn the structure and timing of a meditation class and how to select appropriate warm-up asanas, pranayama techniques, and meditation techniques.
